The iPad and why I think I might just own one…or something similar

I can’t remember a time that there has been said so much and written so much about a product that you can’t actually buy…So let me wade in and tell you why I like the concept…

I own a smart phone (E71) and a laptop. They can both do what the iPad promise to do. So why want another device? To tell you the truth, I have to tell you how I envision using it…

I can see myself sitting in front of the TV watching a show, not really being interested, so instead I want to watch it with half an eye and really surf the net. My loved one love doing things together and hate it when I surf the net… I on the other hand love to read and stay connected…So in step the little iPad.

A notebook can do it, true, the problem is, working with the thing on your lap just never work. The cooling is compromised, so instead it fries you manly parts…while the fans sounds like little jet engines…

A smart phone is too small, you don’t have full web pages plus the backlighting keeps dying, not to mention the battery life…

So the concept of the iPad is really solid for me:  nice biggish screen, full browser, network capabilities.

Why will I not buy the greatest of Apple inventions yet? Well the problem here is rather shocking…it is because Apple made it…

WTF you might say, you see the biggest problem I have with the iPad is that you are locked to Apple and iTunes and iBooks…and here in sunny South Africa we don’t have access to the any of that…

So, I would like to have a device that does what the iPad does, but one that does not come form Apple…

For me, all the short comings that are listed everywhere is not really a problem…I don’t need a camera, I don’t need multitasking.

Instead I would take a better battery life, some stylus input / hand writing input support. Would also liked to have Adobe flash support and a open platform, where I can load the apps I want and how I want. I would also like a usb port and / or an SD card slot.

What I want is a product the size of the iPad, with the capabilities of the iPad, the battery life of the iPad… I want a device I can whip out to show friends some digital photos, send a quick email and just generally snooze on the couch while reading my favourite online steam romance…
